WHY THE NEW SITE? Simply put, there was so much to report about this one landfill, we needed the room. That was recently eased because we tripled our room on thedumpsite. Now, we keep this site as a backup.
We have been providing more of our archived pictures and detail but there is much to report that is happening almost every day that, just keeping up with today's problems occupies much time. Still, HERE ARE SOME ISSUES WE WANT TO TAKE UP =There is much interest in and much misinformation about property devaluation near landfills. What's the real story? =Two NC Solid Waste File Room inventories show 26% of Kersey Valley documents were missing. Where are they? ISSUES ALREADY DONE: = Examine "targeted clustering" of unwanted, negative, land uses (LULUs) in a perceived politically weak area.. = Compare Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfills to Kersey Valley Municipal Solid Waste Facility (MSWF) = Look at kids around Kersey Valley. Growing up in the shadow of a dump. =Show a few NC Solid Waste Section Inspection Reports. What was really there and what did they report? =What is the real lowdown on recycling? =What are some of the failures of landfill laws? |

A Moment On a Soapbox to Express Our THANKS Information and knowledge empowers people. Only a few years ago, the kind of empowerment seen on these pages was reserved for an elite group of newspaper editors and the media. It was totally beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen. An occasional letter to the editor helped, but the number of words was limited, you could only submit one every two weeks or so, there could be no photographs or graphics, and the editor had to be interested enough to accept it for publication over others.
A complex issue such as Kersey Valley Landfill's chronic, ignominious history would never see the light of day. Even if officials bothered to respond to a letter to the editor, it would've consisted of denials, minimizations, and "wesayso" until the complaint was meaningless. The victims would have been left helpless and totally at the mercy of agency personnel whose prime directives are to MAKE MONEY and often includes the need to Cover Their A-- (CYA) to preserve credability.
Thanks to the internet and Homestead.com, these issues can now be seen worldwide by students, businesses, governments, individuals, and the perpetrators themselves for study, safety, enlightenment, assistance, and general information.
We express our sincere gratitude to Homestead.com for hosting our sites and making this possible. |
